What Happened:
While I was shopping a few weekends ago at the Nars counter, I was approached by Pamela, Bloomingdale’s Dior Queen of Lenox Mall here in Atlanta. We started talking about cosmetics and ways to take care of our skin and then, she dropped the bomb on me: “Invest in pro- youth eye cream”. As a 21 year old, this was the least of my worries, but I learned that your eyes are the most important feature on your face. Due to technology and our exposure to new generation chemicals, we are more likely to age faster than our mothers and grandmothers- so its important to keep that area moisturized. Honestly, everyone can’t look like Stacey Dash, Halle Berry, or Jennifer Lopez when they hit their mid-40’s…naturally ;D.Youth is not GAINED it is MAINTAINED.

The Deeper Lesson:
Unfortunately, not all women get access to this information so they end up deciding to go under the syringe when they hit their 50’s, 40’s or even 30’s. I expressed to Pamela the craziness of this dilemma & how thankful I was that she continuously shares useful information with me. That’s when she dropped the finishing touch: “Women have become possessive over information”. In our race to get ahead (while juggling competition, college, and the cost of tuition), we tend to develop the ideology that all information and education comes with a price. No one is obligated to complete ownership over any information. While we are too busy trying to hold every golden token close, to get two steps ahead of the next runner, we often unknowingly force ourselves to take a step back. You may have information that will not make the biggest impact on the place you are striving to go but it could be the key for the girl sitting next to you. She may have the information you have been searching for that will move you to the place that you desire.

Your netWORK is your netWORTH and nothing should be irrelevant to you.

I mean, we’ve learned sharing in kindergarten; you had to trade the pink crayon for the blue one with Sam because you couldn’t color the sky pink… What I am expressing is the fact that we cannot journey too far in life without sharing. Sharing information goes beyond your career and your knowledge but also to the level of expressing how we feel. Scenario: You decide to go out of your way to compliment the ‘fashionista’ (who you see daily strutting down the office) on her attire and guess what? From a five minute conversation, you now have a new shopping buddy who has introduced you to a line of inexpensive clothing you would have never seen or knew of before.

Conclusion:
The tip on the eye cream was a tip in more ways than one: (1) to keep those eyes peachy and bright, (2) but also to encourage us as women to keep the information ball rolling. Sharing is caring.
